Program Summary:
This program will provide Primary Care Physicians the opportunity to learn first hand from national thought leaders in their field. The goal is to provide a clearer understanding of several of the most common disease processes, in light of rapid scientific advances. By doing so, attendees will walk away with new insights and learn useful strategies to manage the challenges faced on a daily basis.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this CME activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. stratify patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome by risk and have a clearer understanding of conservative versus invasive treatment strategy with pharmacotherapy and catheter based protocols
  2. more effectively manage heart failure and understand indications and implications of biventricular devices and cardiac defibrillators
  3. understand the role of the incretin hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) in normal physiology and in patients with type 2 diabetes and the role of medications known as "incretin mimetics" and "incretin enhancers" in the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes
  4. evaluate, stage and manage patients with chronic kidney disease
  5. understand the importance of pulmonary function testing (spirometry) and utilize the results in the diagnosis and treatment of COPD
  6. utilize the latest data to effectively treat patients with GERD and erosive esophagitis as well as those requiring the regular use of NSAIDS
  7. distinguish Depression and Anxiety from Bipolar Disorder, and utilize effective treatments available
