Target Audience: Behavioral Health Care Providers

Program Summary:
This program will provide Behavioral Health Care Providers the opportunity to learn first hand from national thought leaders in their field.The goal is to provide a clearer understanding of several of the most common issues associated with addictive disorders, in light of rapid scientific advances and treatment options. By doing so, attendees will walk away with new insights and learn useful strategies to manage the challenges faced on a daily basis.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  1. Explain how to accurately diagnose bipolar I and II disorder
  2. Identify the common comorbidities that complicate the diagnosis and treatment of bipolar disorder
  3. List treatments that are effective for bipolar mania, depression, and maintenance treatment
  4. Summarize the epidemiology of psychiatric and substance use disorders
  5. Name three strategies for engaging dually-diagnosed patients in treatment
  6. Recognize the risks in treating substance using psychiatric patients.
  7. Describe the complex relationship between Eating Disorders and Addictions and their behavioral overlap
  8. Describe some of the relevant neurophysiology underlying eating disorders
  9. Consider the importance of common comorbities in designing treatment programs with the best rate of success for these conditions
  10. Discuss the growing interface of chronic pain and addiction
  11. Identify concerns to look for in chronic pain patients taking opioid medicines
  12. Explain what to do when you do get worried
  13. List some of the legal issues involving chronic pain and addiction
