Target Audience: Physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who have a high
interest in treating patients with diabetes.
Program Summary:
This two-hour CME activity for practitioners treating diabetes will review the
pathophysiology and current clinical trials that impact the development of
coronary atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes. Attendees will gain
a clearer understanding of the risk factors for cardiovascular disease in
diabetes. The program will review recent trials addressing the management
of diabetic dyslipidemia, the prevention of macrovascular disease, and the
role of TZD medications in primary prevention of diabetes and secondary
prevention of atherosclerosis. Following the presentation there will be a
question and answer session.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, attendees will be able to:
- demonstrate a clearer understanding of the conventional risk factors for cardiovascular disease in diabetes
- discuss recent trials addressing the management of diabetic dyslipidemia
- explain the potential for secondary prevention of macrovascular disease in diabetics
- evaluate the role of the TZD medications in primary prevention of diabetes, and secondary prevention of atherosclerosis
