Common understanding of obesity is that it is due to an imbalance between energy expenditure and energy intake. However, the disease of obesity is also attributed to a pathogenic process associated with the enlargement of fat cells. As a result, the secretions of these enlarged fat cells produce biochemical changes that lead to obesity-related disease processes.
