Target Audience: This activity is for pulmonologists, hospitalists, and other health care providers who treat patients with pulmonary diseases.

Program Summary:

The focus of this CME activity is to provide an update in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of pulmonary disease to pulmonologists, hospitalists, and other health providers who treat patients with pulmonary diseases. Current findings in pulmonary research in such topics as COPD, diagnosis and staging of lung cancer, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, lung transplantation, allergies and asthma, empyema, and sleep disorders will be presented. Clinicians will benefit from learning new research findings that could lead to improved patient care and safety.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss and apply recent advances in the diagnosis and management of Alpha-one Anti-trypsin deficiency
  2. Discuss and apply the current approach to the management of COPD
  3. Describe the role of endoscopic ultrasonography in the diagnosis and staging of lung cancer
  4. Describe the diagnosis and management of pulmonary hypertension
  5. List new guidelines in the management of patients with pulmonary fibrosis
  6. Discuss current criteria for transplant referrals
  7. Discuss current management of difficult to treat asthma
  8. Discuss current management of empyema
  9. Describe the difference between Restless Leg Syndrome and Periodic Leg Movement disorder
