Program Summary:
This program will provide Primary Care Physicians the opportunity to learn first hand from national thought leaders in their field. The goal is to provide a clearer understanding of several of the most common disease processes, in light of rapid scientific advances. By doing so, attendees will walk away with new insights and learn useful strategies to manage the challenges faced on a daily basis.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- identify surrogates of mortality in COPD and better utilize targeted patient interventions that improve patient’s outcomes
- discuss recent advances in Pulmonary Hypertension, screening and workup and review novel treatments for this disease
- more fully understand the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome, explain its clinical significance and outline an approach to its management
- review the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes; understand which interventions can be used to treat hyperglycemia and other metabolic abnormalities, thereby preventing many complications with early, aggressive therapy
- understand the role for insulin in patients with type 2 diabetes and develop strategies for initiating and adjusting therapy
- more clearly comprehend the impact of the Renin Angiotensin System in Hypertension and its role in cardiovascular disease
- evaluate and diagnose the anemia of chronic kidney disease, understand its impact on quality of life, and guide treatment decisions based on emerging data
