Program Summary:
This program will provide Primary Care Physicians the opportunity to learn first hand from national thought leaders in their field. The goal is to provide a clearer understanding of several of the most common disease processes, in light of rapid scientific advances. By doing so, attendees will walk away with new insights and learn useful strategies to manage the challenges faced on a daily basis.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- more fully understand the origins of insulinresistance and type 2 Diabetes, and review studiesof atherosclerosis prevention in patients with type 2Diabetes
- utilize appropriate first line therapies in thetreatment of diabetes with the goal of targeting thevarious metabolic pathways in the management ofhyperglycemia, thereby preventing development ofcomplications
- understand the role for insulin in patients with type2 diabetes and develop strategies for initiating andadjusting therapy
- discuss the epidemiology, diagnostic evaluation,and treatment options of thyroid nodules
- evaluate and diagnose the anemia of chronickidney disease, understand its impact on quality oflife, and guide treatment decisions based onemerging data
- identify surrogates of mortality in COPD and betterutilize targeted patient interventions that improvepatient’s outcomes
- recognize the signs of Pulmonary ArterialHypertension, guide appropriate evaluation anddiscuss the latest therapeutic options
- utilize evolving data and novel therapies tounderstand and more effectively manage patientswith chronic constipation
- recognize the importance of achieving therecommended goal blood pressure rather than thesuperiority of a specific antihypertensive overanother in improving patient outcome andunderstanding the importance of combinationtherapy to achieve effective blood pressure control
